Severe Weather Alert Issued for Lithuania: Heavy Rain and Winds Expected Monday

Lithuania is facing a period of turbulent weather, with official warnings in effect for Monday, July 18th. The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) has issued alerts for dangerous phenomena, anticipating heavy rain and strong winds across multiple regions.

In some places, it will rain heavily. Recommendations: be very careful on the road, choose a safe speed and distance – when it rains heavily, visibility decreases and the road surface becomes slippery.

From the early hours of Monday until 9 PM, the Klaipėda, Tauragė, and Telšiai regions are expected to endure significant rainfall. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads, maintain safe speeds, and increase following distances due to reduced visibility and slippery conditions. Klaipėda is also under a strong wind warning, with gusts reaching 15-20 m/s, and up to 23 m/s near the coast. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items on balconies and in yards, dress warmly if venturing outside, and avoid parking vehicles near trees.

This forecast follows a stormy Saturday, which saw a cyclone move across Lithuania. Several regions, including Klaipėda, Telšiai, Tauragė, Šiauliai, Utena, Vilnius, Alytus, and Panevėžys, experienced thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 15-20 m/s. During thunderstorms, people were advised to stay indoors, unplug appliances, seek shelter away from open areas and tall trees, and be prepared for potential power outages. Kaunas and Marijampolė regions also saw heavy rain.
