Severe weather causes widespread damage in Überlingen

A severe weather front swept through parts of Baden-Württemberg on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction across the entire city of Überlingen.

The storm brought heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms, leading to numerous emergency calls for the local fire department. Within a short period, streets and basements were flooded, trees were uprooted or broken, and roofs were torn off. Some trees fell onto houses, blocked roadways, and even obstructed railway lines.

From approximately 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., the fire department handled 72 weather-related incidents, mobilizing dozens of personnel to address the widespread damage. The full extent of the destruction will require several days to verify and assess, and the fire department could not provide any estimates regarding the total cost of the damages.

Überlingen, located near Lake Constance (Bodensee), is the second-largest city in the Bodenseekreis district, following Friedrichshafen. The intense weather event significantly impacted the region, highlighting the vulnerability of urban areas to extreme weather phenomena.
