Colombian superstar Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy electrified the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Thursday. Their energetic performance of the official song, "Dai Dai," officially kicked off the world's biggest football tournament.

Shakira captivated the audience in a bright yellow outfit paired with a white skirt, entering the field with dozens of dancers. They surrounded a giant replica of the World Cup Trophy as Burna Boy joined them on stage. The performance marked the first live rendition of "Dai Dai," a song that blends Shakira's signature Latin rhythms with Burna Boy's distinctive Afrobeats sound. Dancers created dynamic formations, including the words "We Are Ready," symbolizing the preparedness of the hosts and participants.

The atmosphere intensified with the parade of flags from participating nations, creating a colorful spectacle welcomed by enthusiastic spectators. FIFA highlighted that this ceremony in Mexico is the first of three opening events for the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted across three countries. The approximately 90-minute show in Mexico City will be followed by ceremonies in Canada and the United States.

In addition to Shakira and Burna Boy, the event featured performances by an array of international musicians, including Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, Mana, and Tyla. They performed songs from the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album. FIFA described "Dai Dai" as a song that embodies the spirit of football, culture, and unity through its fusion of diverse musical styles from around the globe.
