Shakira congratulates Messi and Argentina after 2026 World Cup final win

Shakira sent a heartfelt message to Argentina and its captain Lionel Messi following their victory in the 2026 World Cup final. The Colombian singer, who performed during the halftime ceremony, expressed immense pride in the team's performance and their representation of Latinos on the global stage.

In an Instagram post, Shakira wrote, “To my people of Argentina! I am very proud of you, of @leomessi, the greatest, and grateful for having represented all Latinos so well in this 2026 World Cup.” She concluded with “Always in my heart!” accompanied by an Argentine flag emoji and a red heart. Her past connection to Messi and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, stems from her years living in Barcelona during her relationship with Gerard Piqué.

Earlier, after Argentina's semifinal win against England, Shakira had also lauded Messi and Roccuzzo. She posted, “What @leomessi is doing is extraordinary! He demonstrates the values of a deeply committed and disciplined man, who defies time and all adversities. He proves that a person is not defined by their age or by what others say.” She added, “And I know that having a woman like @antonelaroccuzzo by his side gives him the strength and inspiration to prove it!”

Shakira's participation in the World Cup final ceremony included a performance of her song “Dai Dai” with Nigerian artist Burna Boy. The show featured a children's choir from Plaza Sésamo and a large flag with the word
