Shanita - Humanitarian Organisation Provides Hot Meals to Vulnerable Napak Residents Amid Hunger Crisis

Humanitarian organization SHANITA has delivered essential hot meals to hundreds of vulnerable residents in Napak District, Uganda, as a severe hunger crisis grips the Karamoja sub-region. The organization distributed cooked posho and beans to more than 300 individuals, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly, providing a crucial lifeline for those struggling with food scarcity.

For many beneficiaries, this marked the first hot meal in weeks, a consequence of prolonged drought that has devastated local food sources. The intervention comes as government and humanitarian agencies intensify emergency assistance efforts across Karamoja to mitigate widespread suffering.

Our core mission in Karamoja is supporting education through scholarships, but we could not fold our hands and watch people die of hunger. That is why we decided to provide emergency food to the most vulnerable members of the community.

SHANITA's Chief Executive Officer, Lior Sperandeo, explained that while the organization's primary focus in Karamoja is educational support through scholarships, the escalating hunger situation necessitated an emergency food response. "We could not fold our hands and watch people die of hunger," Sperandeo stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The distribution prioritized the most vulnerable, offering immediate relief and supplementing the government's ongoing program to support nearly 314,000 households with essential food supplies.
