Sheinbaum defends Murat amid boos in Oaxaca, citing his merits

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum publicly defended Senator Alejandro Murat, a former governor of Oaxaca, amidst jeers from attendees at a housing program event. The boos interrupted speakers from the Infonavit housing agency and the agrarian development secretariat.

Sheinbaum intervened to highlight three specific actions by Murat: his vote in favor of judicial reform, his coordination of the Senate's Foreign Relations Commission which significantly reduced taxes on U.S. remittances, and his recent defense of Mexicans in the United States. "We must recognize the good in people," Sheinbaum stated, referencing Murat's past role as director of Infonavit under former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Following the event, Murat expressed his gratitude for the president's remarks, stating he was "very enthusiastic" about the achievements of the federal executive. He defended his work as a former PRI governor of Oaxaca and ex-director of Infonavit, asserting that "history will evaluate my management" and that few have achieved what he has in terms of results.

When questioned about "abuses" at Infonavit mentioned by the current director, Octavio Romero, Murat deflected, calling it a "day of celebration." He focused on acknowledging the beneficiaries and celebrating with them, while thanking the president for her words.
