Sheinbaum: Electoral bodies should rule on early campaign activities

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has asserted that any determination regarding alleged early campaign activities should be made by the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Electoral Tribunal. Responding to questions about potential irregularities in the promotion of Morena party members ahead of the 2027 elections, Sheinbaum stated, "The law is very clear, let the INE and the Tribunal determine them, it's that simple."

Speaking at her regular press conference on Tuesday at the National Palace, Sheinbaum Pardo assured that her administration "always complies with the law, always." She reiterated her position: "If someone is engaging in early campaigning, then let the INE determine it and the Tribunal determine it, and let the law be followed. That will always be our position, always."

When questioned about reports of Andrés Manuel López Beltrán beginning tours in Tabasco, the federal executive head indicated that the evaluation of complaints regarding early campaigning typically occurs towards the end of the campaign period. She encouraged that if there are complaints, they should be filed, stating, "And let the INE act and let the Tribunal act, and let the law be followed. And no one should engage in early campaigning... Let the INE determine it, not the President."

Sheinbaum also recently reorganized the Presidential Office, eliminating the spokesperson's office and implementing a new Aide Unit. This reorganization aims to streamline communication and support within the presidency.
