Shelton Sweeps Tsitsipas to Set Up Alcaraz Quarterfinal

Ben Shelton raised his level on Sunday to sweep Stefanos Tsitsipas and arrange a high-profile US Open quarterfinal against Carlos Alcaraz. The ninth-ranked American needed less than two hours to defeat the Greek 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 in front of his New York supporters.

Shelton has reached his best US Open result since his run to the 2023 semifinals, when he emerged on the major stage at age 20. He also defended his Canadian Masters 1000 title in August and now faces the tournament’s defending champion in Flushing Meadows.

He gave Tsitsipas no break-point opportunity throughout the match, abruptly ending the Greek player’s return to form after two difficult years. Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, will continue to wait for his first major quarterfinal since 2024.
