Shettima to unveil ITF’s new business incubation initiative

Vice President Kashim Shettima will soon unveil a new Business Incubation Programme initiated by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). This program is designed to empower Nigerian artisans by providing them with essential skills, resources, and support necessary for establishing and growing sustainable businesses across the nation.

The ITF described the initiative as a significant stride in the Federal Government's broader strategy for skills development, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship promotion, and inclusive economic growth. It specifically targets graduates of the SUPA Programme, aiming to bridge the gap between acquiring vocational skills and developing viable enterprises. Beneficiaries will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, business support services, and access to markets.

The initiative represents a major step in the Federal Government’s commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship promotion, and inclusive economic growth.

Participants will undergo entrepreneurship and business management training, including the internationally recognized Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Programme. The initiative also includes support for certification and licensing processes to enhance professional standing. Under the incubation framework, selected artisans will receive tools, equipment, and start-up packages, with clearly defined participation and repayment arrangements to foster ownership and sustainability.

ITF Director-General Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun stated that the program is a strategic intervention to transform skilled artisans into successful business owners and employers. "The program goes beyond skills acquisition by providing a structured pathway for artisans to transition into entrepreneurship and contribute meaningfully to national economic development," Ogun said. The ultimate goal is to nurture a new generation of artisans who will drive MSME growth, create jobs, and significantly contribute to Nigeria's industrial development.
