Ship crew member suffers cardiac emergency at sea, rescued by helicopter

A 54-year-old crew member of an Argentine fishing vessel was urgently rescued at sea after experiencing a suspected cardiac emergency. The incident occurred aboard the fishing vessel Miss Tade, approximately 194 kilometers (105 nautical miles) off the coast of Buenos Aires province.

The ship's captain contacted the national maritime authority to report that a crew member was suffering from severe chest pain radiating to his left arm, symptoms highly suggestive of a cardiac event. Specialists from the PNA's medical service conducted a radioconsultation with the vessel's crew. They determined the patient presented with "symptoms compatible with precordial pain" that could indicate an impending heart attack, recommending an immediate air evacuation for specialized medical attention.

In response, a coordinated emergency operation was initiated. A PNA aircraft departed from Viedma, while a helicopter equipped with specially trained rescue personnel launched from Mar del Plata. The helicopter crew successfully executed a complex maneuver to approach the fishing vessel.

Using a specialized rescue basket, the crew member was hoisted from the deck of the Miss Tade and brought aboard the helicopter. He was then transported to shore, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to a medical center for continued treatment. The swift action ensured the crew member received timely medical care, potentially saving his life.
