Shocking incident in Vilnius: Man finds girl's parents after witnessing potential assault

A potential tragedy was averted in Vilnius last week thanks to the vigilance of a local resident who witnessed a disturbing encounter between a man and a young girl. The incident occurred on the evening of August 18th, when the man, riding an all-terrain vehicle, noticed a 10-year-old girl with an approximately 55-year-old man on a forest path in Salininkai.

He seemed to be greeting us, waving at us. But the girl looked scared, so we stopped about 30 meters away and watched what would happen. He was stroking her hair, kissing her...

The witness described the man as acting suspiciously, stroking the girl's hair and kissing her. The girl appeared frightened. Concerned, the witness stopped about 30 meters away to observe. The man, realizing he was being watched, quickly disappeared into the trees. The witness expressed outrage, calling for such individuals to be apprehended immediately.

We need to catch people like this and lynch them immediately, as they say, because this... It's an incomprehensible matter for me – pedophilia, some kind of perversion.

Following the encounter, the witness used social media to locate the girl's parents and inform them of what he had seen. The girl's parents subsequently reported the incident to the police. Police spokesperson Tomas Bražėnas confirmed that the girl stated a stranger had spoken to her, attempted to touch her, and then fled when others appeared. Officers responded to the scene but have not yet identified the suspect.

Further details emerged from the Salininkai community association chairwoman, Ramutė Nalivaikienė, who noted that a man matching the suspect's description has been seen in the area before, behaving unusually. Police are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, including the girl and her father, to clarify the circumstances. The incident highlights concerns about child safety in less populated areas, with discussions about improving public transport access to the forest path to increase pedestrian presence.
