Shooting at California World Cup Fan Zone Leaves One Dead, One Injured

A fatal shooting took place at a World Cup fan zone in San Jose, California, leaving one person dead and another critically wounded. The incident occurred at San Pedro Square, a popular gathering spot for fans watching World Cup matches on large screens in the San Francisco Bay Area. Police confirmed that one victim died at the scene, while a second victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The San Jose Police Department is investigating the event as a homicide.

Authorities reported that no World Cup match was being broadcast at the time of the attack. The day's only match in the tournament had concluded around 2:00 PM local time. Following the shooting, several roads in the vicinity were closed, and a significant police and security presence was established. The area was cordoned off, and numerous bars surrounding the square also closed their doors in the aftermath.

An unnamed security guard present at the scene described the injured individual as being in severe condition. "The person was still moaning and in pain. There was blood around his neck and upper back. Police were talking to security guards and some witnesses," the guard stated. San Pedro Square is known for drawing large crowds of fans during major sporting events like the World Cup, with the region hosting several matches throughout the tournament.
