Shooting in Heraklion: Young man surrenders after firing shots outside cafe

A seemingly minor misunderstanding between two young men in Archanes, Crete, erupted into a shooting incident on Sunday afternoon, causing significant alarm in the settlement. The confrontation occurred outside a local cafe.

According to reports, the two individuals, both residents of the wider area and estimated to be around 20 and 21 years old, argued for reasons yet to be determined. Following the dispute, one of the men left the scene, went to his home, and returned shortly thereafter with a firearm.

He then allegedly fired shots, creating panic among cafe patrons and residents before fleeing. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the incident, although the event unfolded in a busy area during daylight hours. Some reports suggest the weapon may have fired blanks, but this has not been officially confirmed.

The Hellenic Police were alerted, and substantial forces were dispatched to the location to initiate a search for the suspect. Hours later, the young man voluntarily presented himself at the Heraklion Police Headquarters and surrendered to the authorities.
