Shooting near White House, suspect apprehended

Shots were fired near the White House in Washington D.C., prompting a swift response from law enforcement and the Secret Service. Approximately 20 shots were reported around 6 p.m. local time, originating from the northwest corner of the White House grounds, near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

According to an official from the Secret Service cited by Reuters, the alleged shooter approached the White House and began firing at law enforcement officers. The individual was subsequently "stopped" and taken to a hospital. Authorities confirmed that no law enforcement officials sustained any injuries during the incident.

Journalists present on the White House grounds were quickly directed to the press briefing room by the Secret Service as the shooting began. A White House spokesperson confirmed that President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time and was aware of the situation.

Law enforcement officials cordoned off the intersection of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, the reported site of the shooting. The incident caused a temporary lockdown of the immediate area as authorities secured the scene and apprehended the suspect.
