Shooting Stars appoint former Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf ahead of new season

Shooting Stars Sports Club has appointed Salisu Yusuf, a former coach of the Super Eagles, as their new Technical Adviser for the upcoming 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season. The Ibadan-based club announced Yusuf's arrival, highlighting his experience as a valuable asset as they prepare for both domestic competition and continental football.

Yusuf, 64, returns to the Nigerian league after a stint with Benin Republic club Coton FC, which ended in June. He previously managed several Nigerian clubs, including Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars, Enugu Rangers, and Enyimba. His international experience includes roles as an assistant coach for the Super Eagles and head coach for the Super Eagles B and Nigeria U-23 teams. A notable achievement was leading the home-based Super Eagles to the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Yusuf's appointment follows the departure of head coach Nurudeen Aweroro and his technical team. Aweroro's tenure concluded after a successful 2025/26 campaign, where he guided Shooting Stars to third place in the NPFL, securing a spot in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. This marked the club's return to continental competition after a 27-year absence.
