Shootout at Lima Market: Four Arrested, Two Wounded

A tense shootout erupted at Lima's La Victoria fruit market, culminating in the arrest of four suspects, two of whom sustained gunshot wounds. The operation, involving specialized police units, targeted the gang known as ‘Los desalmados de la gris’.

According to police sources, the incident began around 3:00 PM when officers attempted to intercept the gang members. The suspects, upon noticing the police presence, tried to escape and even attempted to take hostages. However, law enforcement agents quickly intervened, neutralizing the suspects with gunfire.

The arrested individuals include 18-year-old Franco Díaz Cajo, known as ‘Bocón,’ and Kevin Zapata Lara, 24, who was wounded. Two Venezuelan nationals, Jesús Eduardo Cocho Marín, 21, alias ‘Chuqui,’ and another identified only as ‘Piraña,’ were also apprehended. ‘Piraña’ was hit by four bullets and was reported in serious condition.

These individuals are under investigation for aggravated robbery, illegal firearm possession, and criminal conspiracy. Police confiscated a Glock pistol reported stolen, another firearm, ammunition, four cell phones, and two stolen motorcycles. General Víctor Revoredo, head of criminal investigations, stated that the gang's primary target was bank agents operating within the market.
