Shot fired during dispute over dog; cyclist flees

Police are searching for an unknown cyclist who allegedly fired a shot during a dispute with a dog owner near Blankenrath in the Cochem-Zell district. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, resulted in no reported injuries.

The confrontation began when one of the 62-year-old dog owner's unleashed dogs ran alongside the cyclist. This led to an argument between the two men. According to police reports, the dog owner turned away during the altercation and then heard a shot fired behind him.

When the dog owner turned back, he saw the cyclist placing a silver pistol into his backpack. When questioned, the cyclist reportedly stated that he needed the weapon for self-defense. As the dog owner attempted to contact the police, the cyclist fled the scene.

Authorities are now seeking information to identify and locate the cyclist involved in the incident. The police have not released a detailed description of the suspect but are appealing to the public for any relevant information.
