Shuishang Melon Carnival Draws Record Crowds in Chiayi

The town of Shuishang in Chiayi County celebrated its third annual Melon Carnival, drawing a record crowd of over a thousand attendees for a day of festivities centered around local produce. Titled "Eating Melons All the Way to Prosperity," the event showcased the region's agricultural bounty and offered a variety of engaging experiences for visitors.

The carnival's main attraction was the "Ten Great Melon Food Experiences," which included a bustling market where local farmers sold their best melons. Alongside the market, twenty creative food and agriculture stalls, designed in collaboration with local farmers, provided interactive activities that delighted both adults and children. Limited-edition "Big Melon Treasure Boxes" were particularly popular, selling out quickly as eager attendees arrived early to secure them.

Shuishang Township is one of Chiayi's most important agricultural production areas. The melons grown here are not just agricultural products, but the hard work and pride of our farmers.

Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang praised Shuishang as a vital agricultural hub, highlighting the melons as a source of pride for the farmers. He expressed confidence that the event's success would encourage continued efforts to promote Shuishang's produce nationwide. Shuishang Township Mayor Lin Xiang-ting noted the event's growth over the past three years, emphasizing the addition of richer food and agriculture experiences that allow the public to understand the cultivation and creative presentation of melons.

With over sixty percent of Shuishang's land dedicated to agriculture, the carnival serves as a crucial platform to increase the visibility of local products and acknowledge the hard work of farmers. The event successfully combined an agricultural market, food experiences, and farmer appreciation, aiming to deepen public understanding of food and agriculture education and foster the sustainable development of the local agricultural economy.
