Shura Council to hold 22nd regular session tomorrow

The Shura Council of Oman is set to convene its twenty-second regular session on Monday, continuing its legislative work for the tenth term. The session's agenda is packed with discussions on significant draft agreements and proposals aimed at enhancing the Sultanate's legal and public policy frameworks.

A primary focus will be the deliberation of a draft agreement between the Omani government and the Republic of Azerbaijan concerning the elimination of double taxation on income and the prevention of tax evasion. This agreement seeks to foster economic ties and streamline financial dealings between the two nations.

Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, the Council's Secretary-General, highlighted the Council's ongoing commitment to its legislative responsibilities. He noted that the Council has already held over twenty sessions this term, demonstrating a strong momentum in achieving its legislative goals across various sectors.

The Council continues to exercise its legislative competencies as stipulated in the Council of Oman Law. This is carried out through the study and deliberation of draft laws, agreements, and proposals referred to the Council, and the rendering of opinions thereon, contributing to the development of the legislative framework and the enhancement of public policy effectiveness.

Furthermore, the session will address a draft law proposed by the Council itself, which aims to prohibit the disconnection of essential services from financially distressed families, laid-off individuals, and other humanitarian cases. This initiative underscores the Council's dedication to social justice and protecting vulnerable populations.

The Council will also review reports from its standing committees covering diverse developmental, economic, and service-related topics, further contributing to the nation's progress and public policy effectiveness.
