Sidi Slimane records Morocco’s highest September temperature at 47.1°C

Sidi Slimane reached 47.1°C on Thursday, recording Morocco’s highest temperature for September and breaking a record that had stood since 1988.

The previous September high was 45.8°C, measured on Sept. 6, 1988. Kenitra followed with 45.1°C, exceeding its previous September record of 44.6°C from Sept. 4, 2006. Salé also set a new monthly record, reaching 44.3°C compared with the previous 43.6°C recorded on Sept. 5, 2021.

Ten of the 40 cities covered by the national meteorological data exceeded 40°C. Beni Mellal reached 43.9°C, Meknes 43.5°C and Fes-Saiss 41.9°C. Rabat and Larache each recorded 41.7°C, while Ben Slimane reached 41.4°C and Zagora 41.1°C.

Other readings included 39.8°C in Khouribga, 38.7°C in Errachidia, 38.5°C in Nouaceur and 37.2°C in Marrakesh. Casablanca recorded 35.8°C, Tangier 34.6°C and Agadir-Massira 33.4°C. Essaouira Airport posted the lowest reading on the list, at 31°C.
