Silmäasema Acquisition: Terveystalo Rejects General Practitioners, Focuses on Specialties

Finnish health services provider Terveystalo is set to acquire Silmäasema, a prominent chain specializing in eye care and optical retail, in a significant deal valued at 574 million euros. This strategic move marks a major shift for Terveystalo, signaling a move away from general practitioner services and a focused pivot towards specialized healthcare and digital solutions.

The acquisition is expected to reshape the Finnish healthcare landscape, with Terveystalo aiming to leverage Silmäasema's established network and expertise. The transaction, however, is contingent upon approval from competition authorities. Both companies anticipate that the necessary clearances will be obtained by the end of 2026, allowing the integration process to proceed.

For the seller, Coronaria, the sale represents a substantial capital gain. Silmäasema, acquired by Coronaria in 2020, has seen its value more than sextuple since then, highlighting a successful period of growth and development under its previous ownership. The details of the merger were announced by Terveystalo CEO Ville Iho and Coronaria, Cor Group, and Silmäasema CEO Teppo Lindén.

This move by Terveystalo underscores a broader trend in the healthcare industry towards consolidation and specialization.
