Sinaloa governor seeks to extend electricity subsidy, supports corn producers

Sinaloa's interim governor, Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde, is actively pursuing an extension of the state's electricity subsidy. The initiative aims to provide relief to residents facing high energy bills, especially during warmer months.

The proposal seeks to expand the subsidy period from the current six months to seven months annually. Governor Bonilla Valverde explained that the extension would ideally begin in April and conclude in October, acknowledging the increasing need for air conditioning due to variable climate conditions. This adjustment would help families manage the higher electricity consumption and associated costs.

Discussions are underway between the state government, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to formalize the extended subsidy. The governor expressed optimism that these agreements could be finalized for implementation next year.

In parallel, the state is supporting its agricultural sector. During the event, 580 bank cards were distributed to corn producers, with funds for subsidies set to reach over 10 billion pesos for approximately 26,800 producers. This agricultural support aims to bolster the local economy, benefiting those who cultivated over 3.5 million tons of white corn across 348,000 hectares.
