Singapore: Ex-GE Candidate Takes Over Grassroots Duties in Former Minister's Ward

Singapore's political landscape sees a new appointment as Ahmad Firdaus Daud is set to take on grassroots advisory duties in Kembangan, a ward previously under the purview of Faishal Ibrahim. Daud, who was prepared to stand as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate in the last General Election, will officially become the second adviser to grassroots organizations in the Kembangan ward from September 1.

This move follows the resignation of Faishal Ibrahim, the former Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, in July. Seah Kian Peng, who led the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC team in the recent general election, confirmed Daud's appointment. He stated that Daud would join the team responsible for serving the residents of Kembangan, working alongside fellow Members of Parliament Goh Pei Ming, Tin Pei Ling, and Diana Pang.

Going forward, the plan is for him to relinquish his second adviser role in Punggol, so he can just focus on Kembangan.

Daud is no stranger to grassroots engagement, having been a PAP member since 2016 and previously expressing his readiness to be a candidate. He currently serves as a second adviser in Punggol, working alongside Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. Grassroots advisers, appointed by the People's Association, play a crucial role in guiding community engagement and outreach efforts.

Initially, Daud will juggle his responsibilities in both Punggol and Kembangan. However, the long-term plan, as outlined by Seah, is for Daud to relinquish his Punggol role to concentrate fully on Kembangan. This strategic focus aims to strengthen the PAP's presence and service delivery in the ward following Ibrahim's departure. Seah noted that Daud's involvement in distributing National Day vouchers to Kembangan residents recently marked his first major activity in the ward, signaling his integration into the local political machinery.
