Singer Cha Eun-woo pays 13 billion won in taxes, appeals assessment

South Korean singer and actor Cha Eun-woo has reportedly paid approximately 13 billion won (about $9.4 million) in taxes after the National Tax Service (NTS) assessed him for a significantly larger sum. Despite settling the payment, Cha has filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal, arguing that the tax assessment was unjust.

The controversy stems from the NTS's scrutiny of a management service contract between Cha and a corporation established by his mother. The tax authorities reportedly claimed the undeclared income amounted to around 20 billion won. Following the spread of the controversy, Cha expressed his commitment to cooperating with future tax-related procedures and accepting the final decisions made by relevant authorities.

His agency, Fantagio, confirmed that Cha has initiated the appeal process through the Tax Tribunal, adhering to legal procedures to obtain a judicial judgment. The agency requested understanding regarding the specifics of the ongoing case. Cha had previously stated his intention to diligently participate in subsequent tax procedures and to accept the final ruling and its responsibilities.
