Sinkevičius denies involvement in wife’s appointment

Mindaugas Sinkevičius said he had no connection to the circumstances surrounding his wife’s employment, as questions continued over her appointments in Kaunas District Municipality.

“I understand that there is some speculation that I am somehow connected with the circumstances of the employment, but I am in no way connected with those circumstances,” the prime minister told journalists on Monday.

A report by LRT’s investigative department said Aistė Sinkevičienė became head of the municipality’s Public and International Relations Department without a competition. It also said she worked half-time as a public relations specialist at the municipality-controlled Raudondvaris Manor, remotely.

Her contact details were not publicly listed. The deputy director of the manor said she did not know of such a colleague and said the institution’s director handled public relations because no specific employee held that responsibility.

Sinkevičienė has worked for the Kaunas District Municipality since 2013. After returning from maternity leave in 2023, she became a senior specialist in the department, then took over as its head without a competition in July 2024. Her income exceeded 73,500 euros last year, with roughly a quarter earned at Raudondvaris Manor.
