Sinner, Djokovic withdraw from US Open tune-up in Montreal

Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will not compete in the upcoming Montreal Masters, a key U.S. Open tune-up event. Tournament organizers announced their withdrawals on Friday.

Sinner, who recently defended his Wimbledon title, stated that the decision to pull out was made to prioritize his health after careful consideration with his team. "It is never easy to miss such an important event, but we believe this is the right decision to prioritize my health," Sinner said in a statement. He expressed disappointment but looks forward to returning to Montreal in the future.

Djokovic's withdrawal also leaves a significant gap in the tournament's field. With both Sinner and Djokovic out, world number two Alexander Zverev and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime are now expected to be the top two seeds. Seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz had already been ruled out due to a wrist injury, further impacting the star power of the event, which runs from August 1 to 13.
