Sister of fugitive FETÖ member involved in Erdoğan assassination plot arrested in Turkey

Turkish authorities have expanded an investigation into the FETÖ network, leading to the arrest of Ayşe Alanur Karatepe. She is accused of aiding her brother, Burkay Karatepe, a former captain and fugitive FETÖ member. Burkay Karatepe was reportedly part of an assassination team targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the 2016 coup attempt and was apprehended last week in Afyonkarahisar.

The investigation, led by the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, alleges that Ayşe Alanur Karatepe maintained contact with her brother through organizational communication methods. She is also accused of providing financial support, arranging for food and medical needs, and assisting in plans for his escape abroad. Her actions allegedly included relaying information to his family and helping him remain hidden.

Following the apprehension of Burkay Karatepe, Ayşe Alanur Karatepe reportedly traveled to Muğla. Law enforcement officers detained her in the Menteşe district. Simultaneous searches were conducted at her hotel room, the vehicle she used, and her residence in Eskişehir. Digital materials recovered from these locations have been confiscated for examination as part of the ongoing probe.
