Six arrested in Campeche ranch raid linked to fuel trafficking; aircraft, fuel, weapons seized

Mexican authorities have arrested six individuals following a raid on a ranch in El Cerrito, Champotón, Campeche. The property is reportedly connected to the illegal transfer of hydrocarbons from Mérida, Yucatán.

During the operation, law enforcement seized a significant quantity of illicit fuel, including 5,912 liters of hydrocarbons and 3,000 liters of aviation gas. They also confiscated five long firearms, three handguns, a small aircraft, 61 land vehicles, and a substantial amount of cash totaling 777,750 pesos and five dollars. Additionally, the raid uncovered ammunition, night vision goggles, ballistic vests, and firearm accessories.

The operation stemmed from an investigation initiated in April 2026 after a citizen reported suspected illegal hydrocarbon activities at the ranch. Federal authorities, including the Navy Secretariat (Semar) and the Attorney General's Office (FGR), obtained a judicial order to conduct the search. The FGR's Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor's Office in Campeche received the tip about the irregular transfer of fuel.

Authorities stated that the six detainees are considered innocent until proven guilty. They are currently facing potential charges related to violations of the Federal Law to Prevent and Punish Offenses Committed in Hydrocarbon Matters, and any other applicable charges that may arise.
