Six cities in Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan establish sister-city relations

Six cities in Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan have forged new sister-city relationships, marking a step towards enhanced bilateral cooperation. Memorandums of Cooperation were officially signed on July 31, coinciding with a state visit by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Kyrgyzstan.

The newly established partnerships link Shusha in Azerbaijan with Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan, Gabala with Karakol, and Ganja with Osh. These agreements are designed to foster stronger cultural and humanitarian ties between the two nations, encouraging exchanges in various sectors.

President Aliyev's visit, which began on July 30, included a one-on-one meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov in Cholpon-Ata on July 31. The leaders also convened for the third meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. Sister-city relations are formal agreements intended to promote long-term cooperation, allowing cities to share expertise in fields such as culture, education, tourism, economy, and urban management, and to implement joint projects.

The establishment of these sister-city ties is expected to bolster mutual understanding and collaboration, contributing to the overall development of both countries.
