Six Dead as Car Plunges into Egypt's Mariouteya Canal

A car plunged into the Mariouteya canal in the Badrashin district of Giza on Sunday evening, resulting in the deaths of at least six people. The tragic incident occurred when the vehicle overturned, sending its occupants into the water. Local residents responded swiftly, managing to rescue one individual who was subsequently transported to Badrashin General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

This latest accident has heightened fears that the Mariouteya canal has become a "death trap." Just two weeks earlier, on June 1, another car fell into the same stretch of the canal, located between the villages of Abu-Sir and Al-Aziziya. That previous incident claimed the lives of an entire family of seven people.

Authorities were alerted immediately after the Sunday evening crash. The Giza Security Directorate's emergency operations room dispatched security and rescue personnel, including river rescue teams. They commenced a search of the waterway to recover the bodies of the victims. An official report was filed, and the Public Prosecution has been notified to initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
