Six dead in shooting at German shelter for mothers and children

A shooting at a shelter for minors and mothers in Stade, northern Germany, resulted in the deaths of six people on Monday. Police reported that five individuals died at the scene, while a sixth succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Authorities have arrested a primary suspect and are holding two other individuals for questioning.

According to the current situation, five people died at the scene and a sixth person has passed away in the hospital due to their injuries. Regarding the deceased, they are all adults.

The incident occurred around 12:10 local time in a residential area of Stade, a town of approximately 50,000 inhabitants in the Lower Saxony region. The facility provides care for minors and mothers with young children who are under state supervision or in protective custody.

Police have arrested a main perpetrator. Another two are currently still subject to police measures.

Police spokesperson Matthias Bekermann stated that the alleged shooter and a woman accompanying him were apprehended shortly after the incident following a brief pursuit. Initial reports indicated that four women and one man were among the fatalities before the sixth death was confirmed. The identities of the victims and the arrested individuals have not yet been released, and the motive for the attack is under investigation.
