Six involved in Jos mob killing, four arrested — Police

The Plateau State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspects directly involved in the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, a model and graduate of the University of Jos, also known as “Ibee.” Two additional suspects remain at large as detectives intensify efforts to apprehend them.

Through a Good Samaritan, the Plateau State Police Command received information that a young man had been taken to the hospital in a very critical condition.

DSP Alfred Alabo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that the police were alerted by a Good Samaritan who reported a young man being rushed to the hospital in critical condition following a brutal assault. The victim later died from his injuries, prompting an intensive investigation.

Based on that information, we swung into action and arrested three suspects. During interrogation, they confessed to their various roles in the crime.

The police have identified Emmanuel Newyear as a key suspect, alleging he was seen actively assaulting the deceased with a wooden plank. Joshua Tell is another suspect arrested as the investigation progressed.

We have established that about six persons were directly involved in this incident, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspects share a common educational background, leading to the involvement of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). NANS officials attended the parade of suspects to condemn the incident and support the pursuit of justice. The police reiterated their commitment to apprehending all involved parties and warned the public against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of avoiding "jungle justice."
