Six nations automatically qualify for 2030 FIFA World Cup

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will feature an unprecedented six host nations, with Morocco, Portugal, and Spain taking the lead roles. Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will also play a part, hosting special centenary celebration matches to mark 100 years since the inaugural tournament in 1930.

These six nations have automatically secured their places in the finals. The decision, formally approved by all 211 FIFA Member Associations in December 2024, also confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2034 World Cup. The expanded tournament structure aims to commemorate the centenary of the first World Cup, which Uruguay hosted and won.

Uruguay will host the official centenary celebration, recognizing its historical significance. Argentina, as the 1930 runner-up, and Paraguay, home to CONMEBOL, will each host one opening-week match. Following these South American fixtures, the tournament will shift to Morocco, Portugal, and Spain for the main competition and opening ceremony.

FIFA has adjusted the tournament schedule to accommodate the multi-continental format, including additional rest and travel days for teams involved in the early South American matches. The opening games are slated for June 8-9, 2030, with the tournament officially commencing in the main host countries on June 13 or 14. The final is scheduled for July 21, 2030. FIFA stated that this revised timetable fits within the existing international match calendar.
