Six reasons why Polish municipalities are adopting e-payments in mObywatel

Local governments in Poland are increasingly implementing e-payments within the mObywatel application, driven by six primary factors identified in a recent study. The most significant reason cited is the growing demand from residents for quick and convenient digital payment options.

Officials highlight that the ability to make payments anytime and anywhere significantly enhances user convenience. Furthermore, integrating e-payments into official systems reduces errors common with traditional bank transfers, as residents receive pre-filled payment data, minimizing mistakes. This move is also seen as a step towards modernizing public administration and aligning with current digital trends.

The development of e-services in mObywatel fits into a broader trend of digitizing public administration and building more accessible, modern services for citizens. We actively support local governments in the digital transformation of the public sector by implementing modern and user-friendly payment solutions. Local governments increasingly recognize that digital services are no longer an addition to traditional administration but one of the key elements of the quality of service for residents. For many of them, it is also an important step towards modern, more accessible, and efficient public administration.

Adopting e-payments is also viewed as a way to decrease tax arrears and improve the collection of dues. The digital solutions offer faster access to payment information, streamlining data flow between citizens and authorities, and boosting administrative efficiency. Tomasz Misiak, vice-president of the Polska Bezgotówkowa Foundation, stated that e-services in mObywatel align with the broader trend of digitizing public administration to create more accessible and modern services.

Growing public trust in state applications like mObywatel, with 63% of Poles expressing confidence, further supports this digital transformation. This trend, particularly strong among younger users, indicates a greater acceptance of e-administration and a readiness to use modern channels for interacting with government offices. Misiak noted that citizens expect public services to be as convenient as online banking or shopping.
