Slain Osun teen’s family demands arrest of eight suspects

The family of Ezekiel Olapade, a 14-year-old boy fatally shot in Ilobu, Osun State, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, demanding the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of eight individuals allegedly responsible for his death. The petition, submitted on June 23, 2026, by the family's solicitors, Law Corridor, names Kareem Saheed, known as “Tanfeani,” and seven others as participants in the attack on June 21.

The incident occurred near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat when armed individuals reportedly opened fire. Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the shooting began after a man wearing a political party cap was spotted near a palm wine joint opposite the secretariat. The deceased, whose mother owned the establishment, was reportedly not the intended target. The Osun State Police Command confirmed the teenager died from a bullet wound during the shooting, with another victim hospitalized. Police have identified Saheed as the alleged leader of the attackers and are actively seeking him and his accomplices.

Our clients have informed us that following the incident, they, other eyewitnesses and members of the community identified the above-named persons as individuals alleged to have participated in the attack which resulted in the death of the deceased.

The petition asserts that the family and other eyewitnesses identified the named suspects as those involved in the attack. It states that photographs and other materials assisting the police investigation have been provided. The solicitors urged the IGP to initiate a comprehensive and impartial criminal investigation to ensure justice for Ezekiel Olapade, whose killing has reportedly devastated his family and shaken the conscience of Osun State.
