Slovak Arts Fund to Complete Contract Reviews by End of April Amidst External Audit

Slovak artists and cultural institutions are breathing a sigh of relief as the Fund for the Support of Arts (FPU) moves to finalize its review of multi-year contracts. Director František Kornaj announced that the majority of the 35 suspended contracts will be checked by the end of April, bringing an end to a month-long period of uncertainty for many organizations. This review is crucial for determining whether applicants will receive their promised funding in full or partially.

The FPU's decision to review these contracts, which include those for prominent festivals and long-standing cultural centers, was initially met with concern. However, the process is now proceeding according to contractually agreed-upon dates for submission of supporting documents. Kornaj emphasized that the varying submission deadlines, from December to September, explain why some contracts have already been reviewed while others are still in progress.

Adding another layer of scrutiny, the FPU has also engaged an external firm for an additional audit, following communication with the Ministry of Culture. This move, costing 44,000 euros, is intended to provide further assurance. While the FPU aims to reflect the diversity of Slovak culture, the emphasis remains on rigorous adherence to contractual obligations.
