Slovakia Records Historic High Temperature of 41.4 Degrees Celsius

Slovakia experienced a historic heatwave this week, with temperatures soaring to a record-breaking 41.4 degrees Celsius. The new highest temperature was registered at the weather station in Kamenice nad Hronom, a town in the central part of the country.

This reading surpassed the previous record of 41.3 degrees Celsius, also recorded in Kamenice nad Hronom just last month. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU), this marks the first time in Slovakia's measurement history that a single location has set back-to-back temperature records within such a short period.

The extreme heat has led to a maximum fire alert being issued across Slovakia. Authorities have implemented strict prohibitions on lighting fires, burning garden waste, having campfires, or igniting combustible materials in open areas. Discarding cigarette butts in public spaces is also forbidden to mitigate the risk of wildfires.
