Slovenia depends on strong cohesion

“Without smart investment from European money, there will be no development, only firefighting,” the Slovenian article says as European Council President António Costa visits Prime Minister Janez Janša.

Their main discussion focused on the EU’s proposed long-term budget, known as the Multiannual Financial Framework, for 2028-2034. Slovenia’s priorities include food security, energy security, cybersecurity and defense. The country also wants funding for competitiveness, innovation and industrial transformation.

Janša said the negotiations had reached their most decisive phase before an agreement is prepared. He argued that creating new value was essential because otherwise there would not be enough money or resources for the other priorities.

Costa listed competitiveness in the European economy, defense, security and resilience among the EU’s shared priorities. The meeting took place halfway through his tour of EU member states.
