Slovenian Golfer Barbara Car Brings U.S. Success to European Amateur Stage

Slovenia's top amateur golfer, Barbara Car, is demonstrating her prowess on the European circuit after a highly successful season in the U.S. collegiate league. The second-year student at Old Dominion University, who was named the top player in her conference, recently competed in the NCAA regional tournament, finishing 38th.

Returning to her home country, Car bypassed the Slovenian International Amateur Open to focus on two major tournaments in Great Britain and Scotland. Her game has shown significant improvement this year, a fact underscored by her performance in the U.S. collegiate competitions. This enhanced form has clearly translated to European soil.

Barbara had a score under par after the first two days of the tournament. On the final day, the girls played two rounds of 18 holes, so concentration and perseverance were especially crucial.

Car achieved an excellent fifth-place finish at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, competing against 144 players. After the first two rounds, she was in fourth place at the renowned Ganton Golf Club. Her father and coach, Matjaž Car, noted that while she maintained a strong position, two errors on the final day's 12th hole caused her to lose rhythm, though she still secured a very good ranking.

The Australian golfer Jazy Roberts (-13) claimed victory, followed by Switzerland's Carlotta Locatelli (-6). England's Sadie Adams and Cherry Marley shared third place at par. Car is now gearing up for further challenges, including the prestigious R&A Women's Amateur Championship in Muirfield, Scotland, from June 22-27. She will also represent Slovenia as a key player in the European Amateur Team Championship in Ireland (July 7-11) and the European Ladies' Amateur Championship in Sweden (July 22-25).
