Slovenian golfer Pia Babnik earns significant prize money at London championship

Slovenian golfer Pia Babnik continues her strong performance on the European tour, securing a 14th-place finish at the PIF Championship in London. The tournament, with a prize fund of 1.7 million euros, saw Babnik earn over 27,000 euros, adding to her recent string of good results.

Babnik completed the four-day tournament with a score of 283, nine strokes under par. She was 13 strokes behind the winner, Canada's Anna Huang. Babnik's best round was on the final day, where she shot a 69, following earlier rounds of 73, 70, and 71. This performance places her eighth in the overall European tour standings.

Her current ranking keeps her in contention for a top-10 finish by the end of the season, which would grant her an invitation to the final stage of qualifying for the LPGA Tour in 2027. Additional incentives for top performers include invitations to the 2027 Women's British Open and the Evian Championship, with the top two players earning spots in the KPMG Championship in the USA.

Babnik's world ranking is projected to rise to around 160th. She recently achieved one of her career-best results at the Women's British Open, finishing 23rd and earning her largest check on the European tour to date (75,000 euros). This followed a third-place finish at the Chevron Championship in the USA in 2022, her second-highest major finish. After a series of tournaments in the UK, the 22-year-old Ljubljana native will take a 14-day break before competing in Ireland, Spain, and Italy in the coming months. She is on track for a potential third Olympic appearance at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, having previously competed in Tokyo (34th) and Paris (22nd).
