Slovenian opposition forms 'shadow government'

Slovenia's opposition is preparing to establish a "shadow government," a political concept that, while not entirely new to the country, draws its roots from the British parliamentary system. This move signifies a structured approach by the opposition to scrutinize and challenge the current administration.

The core principle of a shadow government, as explained by political scientist Alenka Krašovec from the Faculty of Social Sciences, is to replicate the structure of the incumbent government. Each member of the opposition's "shadow cabinet" is assigned to monitor a specific ministry. Their role extends beyond mere criticism; they are tasked with developing alternative policies and presenting distinct solutions for various sectors.

Krašovec elaborated on the function of these shadow ministers, stating, "It's not just about communication, oversight, or criticism of the government, but also about preparing different policies in individual areas." This proactive stance aims to demonstrate the opposition's readiness to govern and offer viable alternatives.
