SMAN 2 Cirebon's Sekolah Maung program sees overwhelming demand, 580 applicants vie for 384 seats

SMAN 2 Cirebon is facing a surge of interest for its Sekolah Maung (Superior Human School) program, with applicant numbers far exceeding the available spots for the 2026/2027 academic year. The registration period, which opened on Monday, May 25, 2026, and closed on Friday, May 29, 2026, saw an enthusiastic response.

As of Friday morning, the school had registered 580 prospective students for the program. This figure significantly surpasses the allocated quota of 384 students, which is divided into 12 classes with 32 students each. "The number of applicants has already exceeded the quota," stated Deddy Setiawan, the head of the SPMB (New Student Admission) committee for Sekolah Maung at SMAN 2 Cirebon.

The Sekolah Maung program at SMAN 2 Cirebon has attracted students from distant areas, including Kabupaten Bekasi, as it does not implement a zoning system. This policy means that the students' place of residence is not a factor in their application.

Despite the overall high number of applicants, Setiawan acknowledged that some specific admission pathways still have unmet quotas. The academic potential track, which was intended to fill 10% of the total quota (approximately 38 students), has only attracted around 30 applicants so far.
