Smoke from bakery oven prompts hotel evacuation in Reykjavik area

A reported hotel fire in the Hlíðahverfi neighborhood turned out to be smoke from a bakery oven, which firefighters cleared from the building.

The incident appeared in the Reykjavík-area police log covering operations from 5 p.m. the previous day to 5 a.m. The fire service handled the smoke removal.

Police also reported a break-in at a restaurant in Vesturbær, which remains under investigation. In Hafnarfjörður, an electric bicycle collided with a car without injuring anyone.

Another fire report, this time from an apartment building in Kópavogur, concerned a resident grilling in the good weather. No one was injured in a traffic accident in Grafarvogur, although one vehicle could not be driven afterward. Officers stopped two drivers suspected of driving under the influence of narcotics, and one had been deprived of driving rights. Several other drivers received fines for traffic violations.
