Social Democrats visit King, propose Frederiksen to lead government talks

Social Democrats Peter Hummelgaard and Nicolai Wammen have initiated the third round of coalition talks since the March 24 election by visiting the King at Amalienborg. They proposed Mette Frederiksen as the royal investigator tasked with forming a new government.

Hummelgaard stated that the focus is now on finalizing the work to establish a coalition. "Now we must really start finishing the work we were doing," he said. Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen stressed their readiness to pursue "responsible economic policy," a point Lars Løkke Rasmussen has emphasized throughout the negotiations.

"We want to be in government with Lars Løkke. We have not hidden that. And we have had a good cooperation for more than three and a half years," Wammen added. The parties are visiting the King in order of their size in parliament, with the Social Democrats first and the Citizens' Party last.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen's Moderates hold crucial mandates. Rasmussen indicated Friday evening that he would support Frederiksen as the lead negotiator, making her likely to be appointed. The parties are expected to reach an agreement to form a government.
