Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police Seize Etomidate Worth Rp 97.8 Billion

Authorities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport have intercepted a significant quantity of etomidate, a controlled substance, confiscating 8,600 milliliters over a three-month period from February to May 2026. This seizure, valued at an estimated Rp 97.8 billion (approximately $6 million USD), is the result of investigations into three separate international drug trafficking operations.

Police arrested four foreign nationals and seized a total of 8,600 milliliters of etomidate liquid with an economic value of around Rp 97.8 billion.

The confiscated liquid etomidate is believed to be capable of producing nearly 14,000 vape cartridges containing illicit substances. The successful interdiction highlights the airport's role as a potential transit point for international drug networks seeking to introduce etomidate into Indonesia. Police estimate that the seized amount could have harmed approximately 55,928 lives if distributed.

Four foreign nationals were apprehended in connection with these cases: one each from Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Thailand. Police Commissioner Besar Wisnu Wardana of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Resort Police emphasized the ongoing threat posed by international drug syndicates and the importance of continued vigilance. He stated that the police, in collaboration with relevant agencies, are strengthening surveillance measures to prevent the entry of narcotics via air routes.
