Sokoto governor's aide urges unity against banditry

Sokoto State Governor's Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (Rtd.), has called for unity among political leaders and stakeholders to combat banditry, urging them to set aside partisan differences. Usman stressed that insecurity should not be politicized, noting that bandits do not discriminate based on political party affiliation when carrying out attacks.

While acknowledging the right of opposition politicians to voice their opinions, Usman urged them to ensure their contributions are positive and aid efforts to protect lives and restore peace. He specifically praised former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aliyu Wamakko for his consistent support to banditry victims and his engagement with individuals and institutions capable of contributing to lasting solutions.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko has demonstrated that there is a better way to contribute to the fight against insecurity. He has not only supported victims and communities affected by banditry, but has also been reaching out to those who matter, seeking their commitment and support towards finding lasting solutions to the security challenges facing the state.

Their support is important because no single government or institution can defeat banditry alone. We encourage others to emulate such efforts and contribute positively to the search for lasting solutions," Usman added. He appealed to all leaders, including traditional and religious figures, as well as the public, to collaborate with the government and security agencies, urging those with useful ideas or capacity to support security efforts to come forward constructively. The immediate priority, he stated, is the protection of lives and property and the restoration of peace across the state.
