Soldier killed in grenade exercise laid to rest with military honors

The Malaysian Army confirmed an incident during a combat readiness exercise resulted in the death of Private Siti Khadijah Sungip. The explosion occurred during a grenade-throwing drill at Kem Hobart in Gurun, Kedah. Her body was transported back to her hometown in Kluang, Johor, following an autopsy in Alor Setar.

Private Siti Khadijah was laid to rest with full military honors at the Taman Sri Lambak Islamic Cemetery. The Malaysian flag was presented to her father, Sungip Jais, by the Commander of the 7th Brigade, Brigadier General Datuk Zulhelmi Masdar, amidst a light rain. The funeral was attended by more than 300 individuals, including family members and colleagues, who paid their last respects.

The ceremony at the cemetery followed a prayer service at Masjid Nurul Iman. The incident, which occurred at 10:57 a.m. on Tuesday, also injured Corporal Norazmi Abu Bakar. The Army stated that the exercise was part of the Royal Engineers Regiment's combat readiness training.
