Some landowners along new DART route issued with CPOs

More than 200 landowners along Ireland’s proposed DART+ West route have received notices marking the start of a formal compulsory purchase process.

Iarnród Éireann said 206 directly affected landowners received a Notice to Treat. The statutory notice formally begins the land purchase process and confirms CIÉ’s intention to acquire property interests identified in the Railway Order for the project.

DART+ West will extend services to communities including Ashtown, Pelletstown, Broombridge, Castleknock, Coolmine, Clonsilla, Drumcondra, Leixlip, Maynooth, Hansfield, Dunboyne and M3 Parkway. Iarnród Éireann says the route will provide a DART service at least every 10 minutes.

Advancing the DART+ programme is a major priority for Government, and the issuing of these [CPO] notices will help us commence the construction of DART+ West next year.

The project will electrify and upgrade existing lines, expanding the DART network from 50 kilometers to more than 150 kilometers. It also includes a new station at Spencer Dock and upgrades to Connolly Station.

Iarnród Éireann Chief Executive Mary Considine called the land acquisition process a significant milestone in delivering the wider programme.

DART+ West will deliver a turn up and go level of rail service, with a new more accessible DART stopping at these communities every 10 minutes.
