Somos México Demands INE Scrutiny of Campaign Finances for 2027 Elections, Cites Early Campaigning

The political party Somos México has called on Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) to conduct a deep and transparent audit of campaign finances leading up to the 2027 elections. Marco Antonio Baños Martínez, the party's representative, announced they will file a complaint to investigate potential premature campaign activities and the origins of funds used to finance them.

Baños Martínez specifically targeted Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, stating he is "campaigning, not pre-campaigning." He questioned Morena's extensive territorial outreach aimed at promoting its figures before the official start of the electoral competition. Somos México's complaint will urge the INE to scrutinize the resources used in these activities. They also seek a review of alleged operations between Morena and Financiera para el Bienestar (Finabien), particularly concerning the distribution of 252,000 social aid payments, to determine the source and destination of these funds and whether they were properly reported. "Why don't they explain where this money came from, how they distributed it, and to whom they gave it?" Baños demanded.

Given the substantial public funds political parties will receive in 2027, Somos México proposed creating an External Commission of Experts. This independent body would strengthen the INE's auditing mechanisms and oversight of political parties' finances. Somos México pledged to publicly disclose every peso it receives in 2027, ensuring transparency in its operations and campaign activities.
