Sonam Wangchuk's Wife to Lead Parliament March After Activist Hospitalized

Gitanjali J Angmo is set to lead a march to Parliament today, July 20, in solidarity with her husband, activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was forcibly hospitalized by Delhi Police on Saturday. Wangchuk is currently on his 23rd day of an indefinite hunger strike.

Wangchuk is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing irregularities in the examination system and a rise in student suicides. Angmo stated that if her husband cannot march, she will lead the demonstration, emphasizing that the march will proceed.

Angmo herself is a prominent figure, serving as the founding CEO and dean of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL) since 2017. She also founded TransformIndia and runs The Helios Books.

Her diverse experience includes a Chevening Fellowship at the University of Oxford and leadership roles at various organizations. Angmo also holds a black belt in Karate and is trained in Odissi and Russian ballet. She is reportedly Wangchuk's second wife. The activist's hospitalization has raised questions, with Angmo alleging she and her husband were not informed prior to his transfer to Safdarjung Hospital, despite his vitals reportedly being normal.
